My Phone Call With The Nurse

Today I spoke to Sharon about my cycle. She seemed optimistic.

She said that everything looked great this cycle. I ovulated "quite well" and the timing was good. She said that because we know I ovulate so well with the Femara there is no need for a trigger shot. A trigger shot will not improve my chances and they would only use the it if I was not having good ovulation. My progesterone proves I am ovulating without a trigger. I am producing mature eggs with the Femara alone.

They will do up to 5-6 cycles of Femara. We should plan on doing 3 more cycles with Femara and IUI. If pregnancy does not occur then we can add the Menopur with the Femara and IUI. I have 11 vials that I don't want to go to waste and I have heard the combo of Femara and injections can be very successful  After that, she recommends we consider IVF.

In her opinion, we are not fighting the problem with ovulation, we are fighting the PCOS.

I am suppose to wait for a period. If it doesn't start in one week she wants me to take another HPT. If it is negative then we will do some lab work to see what's going on.

Part of me wants a period.
Part of me hopes it doesn't come.

  1. I wish there was a fast forward button so you didn't have to wait it out BUT everything sounds like a great plan. I'm hoping you see your BFP very soon!

  2. Have they considered putting you on metformin for PCOS? I'm inbetween my 3rd and 4th ivf/FET cycle and my RE put me on metformin to counteract the PCOS. I NEVER ovulate on my own and did get pregnant with IUI (clomid & trigger shot) and have a beautiful 4 year old daughter. Now I'm battling a worse case of secondary-infertility, but that's a story for another day. Anyway, I'm hoping that the metformin can bring on ovulation...however I"ve been on it for 5 weeks with no period in sight.

    1. Ann, I have been on Metformin for over a year now. Maybe that is why I ovulate so well!

  3. Well at least you do have some good things going for you with femera. I'm kind of hoping AF stays away and you get your BFP!!

  4. The good news is you are ovulating with femara. Now we just need egg and sperm to meet. I think doing IUI instead of TI moving forward is a great plan. Really hoping this works for you soon so you don't have to do IVF. Good luck!

  6. I agree with Jen, IUI sounds like your best bet. It's so wonderful that you are ovulating so well. Just need those little spermies to meet the eggs! Is there any male factor going on? I'm still holding out hope for a bfp. Any sign of AF yet?

    1. No sign of her yet...! I thought for sure she was here today, but nothing yet. CD 34- DPO 17? I have to take another HPT if it does not start next week. Eeek. I am not very hopeful or positive about it, though.

  7. My RE has always had me do a trigger shot during IUI (and during my current IVF cycle). I have always ovulated on my own but was told that we use triggers during IUI just to help the doctor with timing the IUI perfectly. For my IVF cycle, it was explained to me that the trigger shot also helps the follicle pull away from the ovary wall in preparation for ovulation. Maybe that last bit of info is only important for IVF since they actually go in and retrieve the eggs... I don't know.
