I have decided to try juicing. For one, I don't eat enough vegetables and for two, a fellow infertile friend has lost quite a bit of weight in the short time she has been doing it. While I know that there is no "quick fix" I do know that this could help me not only shed some weight but, it will allow me a chance to get the nutrients that I lack in my diet. I will be sure to add protein into my daily routine as well. I only plan to juice for breakfast; since that is a hard meal for me to put down, and for lunch. Mike and I will consume a balanced dinner each night, together.
I started out with: the juicer (that I got a smoking deal on), kale, spinach, beets, cucumbers, limes, lemons, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, watermelon, grapes, pineapple (they were 10 for 10!) oranges, apples, carrots, mangos, ginger, blueberries, nectarines and celery. (Some stuff Mike will take for lunch, I'm sure.)
My first juice was a kale, apple, ginger and carrot. It was surprisingly good! I am looking forward to trying new recipes, making up my own recipes, and hopefully feeling better.
Wow! I have thought about doing that. I may have to do it now. That juice actually sounded pretty good. What juicer did u get?
ReplyDeleteIt was quite good and filling! I bought the Breville Juice Fountain Plus. It was $149.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond. I used the 20% off coupon AND returned a deep fryer we got for our wedding that we never used... so it ended up costing me $70.00! My sister has the same one and loves it.
DeleteAnd you wont have to buy veggies this summer with that awesome garden you planted!
DeleteI am SO interested to hear how this goes!!! I seriously thought about doing this, but was deterred by the cost of the juicer (and the idea of drinking kale and celery)! Keep us updated!
ReplyDeleteI will be sure to keep you posted! The kale wasn't that bad. My sister said NOT to use too much celery OR cucumber. They can ruin a juice. She also said to add citrus to it!
DeleteI'm very interested to see if you get the results you're hoping for... I've been trying to lose (and keep off) ten pounds that I gained when I was pregnant with my daughter, and I just can't seem to do it. I may just have to try juicing...
ReplyDeleteI will keep you posted. If I don't lose weight at least I am getting my nutrients, right?
DeleteThis picture makes my mouth water!!! I'm addicted to veggies and fruit! I haven't tried juicing, but hear awesome things! Hope you like it!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I love fruits but I need to "eat" more veggies!
DeleteI'm with Amanda, let us know how this goes! Keegan and I don't juice, but we do make smoothies for breakfast every so often. We take frozen fruits and ice cubes I make from spinach with some Silk and fruit juice and it makes an awesome breakfast, especially in the 100*+ Mississippi heat!
ReplyDeleteTell me more about these frozen spinach ice cubes!
DeleteWell, we were originally using regular spinach in our smoothies, but I realized that it was going bad before we used it all. I decided to use a food processor to blend the spinach up with a little bit of water and freeze it so that I could pop in a few spinach cubes instead of ice cubes in our smoothies.
DeleteThe funny thing is, the only ice cube trays we had were ones left over from a bachelorette party, so now we have green penis shaped ice cubes in our freezer. It's definitely gotten a few questions from our friends!
omg Aislinn that is hilarious!
DeleteI need penis shaped ice cube trays! Awesome!!! I should fill them will blue kool-aide for blue balls. LOL!!
DeleteI really hope this goes well for you! I tried doing it and was having great results, but then I got laaaazy. Hmmm, maybe you've inspired me to try again...
ReplyDeleteI hope I can stick with it for a little while at least. And I really need to get better withe recipes! Beets are GROSS!
DeleteYummm! That sounds great! I fell off the juicing bandwagon, but still do it every now and then. I love using it when I have a bunch of fruits/veggies that are going bad... I just throw them in the juicer rather than throwing them away. When I juiced, it would really fill me up - and I actually felt like I had more energy.
ReplyDeleteI dont know how long I will be able to keep it up- but right now, I am pretty excited about it. And my fridge looks awesome all colorful and full of good foods!
Deleteyou probably already know this but dont juice the berries, banana or other fruits like mango! You add them to your other juice and blend them into your juice. Sorry, I used to work at a vegetarian juice bar/restaurant! :)
ReplyDeleteMy sister told me NOT to do bananas for sure! I didn't know about the berries! Thanks!! I like to EAT my berries most!
Deletepower to you for being able to do this! I don't even know how to cut a pineapple. Good luck and I hope you find something that makes beets taste better
ReplyDeleteI had to figure out how to cut the pineapple myself last night- thanks to Miami Heat. LOL!!
DeleteI LOVE pineapple and I hope I can soften the taste of the beets too! EWWW
Even the picture looks healthy! Sounds delicious--especially the pineapple!
ReplyDeleteThis is so odd that you posted about juicing because it keeps coming up in my life again and again and again. I feel like it's a big trend right now and I'm like this close to jumping on the bandwagon. Keep blogging about this because I want to know how it goes for you! And I'm especially curious about the expense of it all and whether you feel like there's much waste.
ReplyDeleteOh wow this looks great & delicious!! I wish I could do this, but I love eating too much and I wouldn't be committed. I am happy for you! I bet aside from the weight-related benefits, you will also see an improvement in your hair, skin etc. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteLooking at getting a juicer soon too. Today I went comparison shopping for one and decided the online deals were much better.
ReplyDeletePineapples 10 for $10?? Really? That is a steal! How is the juicing going?
ReplyDeleteHi! Thank you for sharing your juicing experiences! Be careful with juicing only. I prefer to mix juicing with blending. So I get not only vitamins but also healthy fibers. I think it's better to make juices in the morning and in the evening, but not in the morning and in the afternoon because you're staying with a full dinner.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dave for the helpful advice! I am trying to juice in the morning and at dinner now that I am working full time again. It is too hard to juice at lunch time so I will try it at dinner instead! Also, the idea of juicing and blending is brilliant!
