Last Night

Last night DH and I "planned" out the next steps.

I have surgery on the 12th and I was worried that it would interfere with our next cycle. When I called my RE office I was reassured that as long as it was not a invasive surgery I should be just fine to move forward. She also said that while we can do IUI if we choose, it is not necessary since DH had a normal SA. With that being said, she did said that they would recommend IUI after 3-4 failed cycles.

When I told DH what she said we decided to do IUI. We have done 5 cycles of Femara without IUI,  so it is now time to pair the treatments together. Hopefully we won't need to do it several times, but we agreed to try it 2-3 more times and then that's it. If after all that we are still not pregnant then we will move away from oral meds and injections and onto more aggressive (and expensive) treatment. In 2014, if we are not pregnant we will pursue IVF. I won't lie, though. IVF scares me. It is so expensive and there is no guarantee. Plus, I worry that I may have bad eggs. But, from what I hear, the only way know how good/bad my eggs are in through the IVF procedure. So, this is something we need to do.

I am happy and content with this plan.

We are not done trying until we have tried it all.

  1. I definitely think your chances are better with iui. Fingers crossed for you and hoping you don't have to move on to ivf.

Just remember, I had ivf, iui and had my longest pregnancy on simple TI :) You never know which cycle is going to be the one :)

  3. It's hard facing the step of going from IUI to IVF. But once you are in the trenches it's amazing how your norm/reality changes. At first I was terrified to give myself shots, now after 1 IVF and 2 FETS and 1 canceled FET, I've gone through HUNDREDS of shots and injections. It just becomes part of your new reality for the baby making journey. And honestly, once I was there, I felt empowered knowing that I had a good shot at this working. Unfortunately, after all of the IVFs/FETs I'm still without baby #2, but I do know in my heart that I'm on the right track!

Hang in there!! you have a great community of bloggers supporting you and cheering you on!! :)

  4. Sometimes, just having a plan makes it easier to face what you have to face. I hope you never have to take the step to start IVF.

    1. I agree. Having a "plam" makes me feel better, even if it changes daily!

  5. A plan is good! I hope that you guys never make it to IVF (not b/c it's horrible, just b/c it would be nice to have an IUI work!).

  6. I'm glad you feel good about your plan. I think it was a good decision to try IUI again, and I hope this cycle is the one for you! Try to focus on each step at a time so you don't get overwhelmed. I am sending you lots of baby dust :)

  9. Good for you. Our doctor told us three IUIs. I hope so very much they work for you. Otherwise, we can be IVF buddies. I'm with you, IVF scares me too.

    1. SOunds like our docs are similar. We have done 2 IUIs but not back to back. I am thinking that if we do 3 IUIS then we need to be prepared to do them back to back. What do you think?

  11. I'm with Ann Foster, I was TERRIFIED of the injections, but it becomes the new normal. I know that the shots are not your fear when it comes to IVF, though Teresa, it's more the expense and the unknown of whether it will work or not. I totally get that. In the end, for Hubby and I, it came down to whether we could live with ourselves down the road if we didn't at least try. We will be able to know that we did EVERYTHING we could!

    1. We know we need to try IVF before we call it quits, so we are saving for that. We feel the same way- we need to try everything, at least once!
