2015 Bucket List

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I can't believe 2014 has come and gone, time just seems to fly by. I remember when we were actively trying to conceive time felt like it was never going to pass; we were always waiting for something.

So much has happened for so many of you this past year. A lot of my infertile sisters have become mothers and some are planning their second child. I still haven't gotten pregnant, but I am in a good place right now and I am finding contentment more and more every day. To be honest, my goals have changed from trying to get pregnant to loosing weight.

Between 2013 and 2014, I lost a lot of weight; nearly 30 pounds. But, in the past year my weight has crept back on. I haven't have a regular cycle and I have been having this annoying, nagging, pain on my left ovary for several months. As I said in my last post (ages ago) they thought the pain was from the 17mm cyst an ultrasound showed, but I disagree because it has not gone away and it still lingering.

I have an appointment with and Endocrinologist in a few weeks and I am currently on a diet medication to help drops some of these pesky pounds (don't judge!). I don't want to continue with an RE at this point- I want to find the pain, balance hormones, and diet, and get to a healthier state.

This year Mike and I decided to make a Top 10 Bucket List. We each wrote down 10 things we really wanted to do this year; ten things we CAN make happen.  We spent so much time trying to control my cycle and infertility that we wanted to focus this year on things we can make happen. And each year Mike says "We are going to do something I want to do; since we always do what you want." I didn't argue; he is right. Mike is very accommodating when it comes to my wants. So, I  decided (ha, see, I make the decisions) that we would both write down things we really wanted to do; together or alone. That way we each got to fulfill our wants throughout the year.  We came up with some kick ass ideas, if I don't say so myself!

We already have my #10 booked! We will be celebrating Mike's 40th together at this amazing cabin. I found this place a couple years ago and we have been talking about booking it  since then. This year, we are crossing it off the bucket list! How amazing is this?

I am trying to convince Mike that we need to knock out my #7 (Vegas) and his #2 (Zion) together in one vacation. I was thinking we could fly to Vegas and spend a couple nights on the strip then rent a car and drive up to the Zion (a 2.5 hour drive) and spend a couple nights there and a couple days hiking. Then we could catch a flight home from Utah or drive back to Vegas and fly home from there. Mike doesn't like the idea; he thinks it should be two separate trips because he wants to camp a for a few days in the Zion and visit Bryce Canyon.

My #2 and his #6 are going to happen one way or another. We've been talking about it since our wedding. This year is our 4 year anniversary and I think it is about time we have a REAL honeymoon! I have been looking into Mexico and Hawaii. We really want to do the all- inclusive so that we don't have to worry about a food or beverage limit. I don't know what a good price is for airfare or five nights would be- I've NEVER left the country. I've spent countless hours "researching", but always become too overwhelmed to decide. Besides, I need to check #1 off the list before I can do anything! Planning a trip without my passport physically in hand doesn't seem like a good idea.

I have no doubt we will knock out all 20 items this year. I am head strong and once I make a list of "to dos" I have to check them off. Or at least give it my best shot!!

What would you do if you wanted to visit Vegas and the Zion in one year?

Where do you plan vacations out of the country? Do you use a travel agent or do the shopping solo?

  2. Hi! Bryce is only about an hour from Zion, and Vegas is probably the closest big airport, so I would make it a little longer trip and do all 3! :-) They're amazing and each park is so different! I have traveled out of the country and planned it myself, Tripadvisor is an awesome website and I also got guide books from the library, like Lonely Planet and things like that! I love traveling and planning trips! Have fun!

  3. That cabin looks amazing!

Both Mexico and Hawaii are awesome places to visit! The only time I have ever used a travel agent was to book our honeymoon in South Africa and Mozambique.

Um, Hawaii is part of the country so that really doesn't fit your "travel out of the country" part of your list. :-)

  6. I love this idea of a bucket list. Life is too short. Chris and I talk more and more about if this baby stuff doesn't pan out, what would we do with our lives, and I think traveling is a marvelous idea because we both love it! And I agree, all inclusive is the way to go.

  7. Vegas/ Zion/ Bryce/ Grand Canyon/ Sedona was my wedding/ family-moon trip! If you're interested, I can e-mail you some of the places we stayed. We had an amazing hotel at Zion- we plan to go back again someday.

I like the bucket list idea- particularly when it's stuff that is totally doable in the space of a year. I might have to give it a try!

  8. Hawaii was the most amazing trip for us! We've been to Amsterdam, Paris, the French Riviera, Barcelona and NYC together and Hawaii was the best vacation. It was equal parts relaxation and drinking mixed with adventure and exploring! I've never had a better tan in my life AND it was the best motivation to get in shape!! I worked out like an insane person for a solid 6 month before we left.
I like how you want your passport and Mike wants to leave the country, you want to go to a sport event and he want to go to a nfl or nba game...crossover! :)

  9. I love that you have some of the same items on your list. Want to go to Denver for your NFL game? I have broncos season tickets :)
We have always found flights and hotels on our own online. The only time we used a travel agent and did a "group" tour was when we went to Egypt because it seemed to intimidating otherwise. Since you haven't traveled out of the country before, you might feel more comfortable with a travel agent, though. Then you have someone to call if you have any issues. I like Mexico. I even got married there. But, if you are there in an all inclusive resort it isn't really going to feel like another country. It's a great vacation, but if you really want to leave the country, go to Europe. Go somewhere that is going to feel very different. Even London. It's different but they still speak English. That's my unsolicited advice. haha.

    1. Do I want to go to a Denver game? Are you kidding me??! I LOVE DENVER BRONCOS!!!! They are my team!!

I really want to visit Switzerland someday- my mom was born there. But, first, Mike wants to visit a beach where he can lounge and drink all day with ZERO worry.
London, Ireland, Prague... oh the places I want to go!!!!!!
